Where now with planning?

The Government has announced the end of Regional Spatial Strategies and promised that local authorities will determine how many homes can be built in their area. It is assumed that this means Chichester District Council will be the body with this responsibility in future although this has yet to be confirmed.

An average of five polls conducted immediately after the Sky TV Leaders Election debate on Thursday night put Nick Clegg as the winner, with all instant polls showing him ahead of Gordon Brown. After the Foreign Affairs-led debate from Bristol dominated by issues like Iraq, immigration and climate change, Nick Clegg won 3 of the 5 polls on the night, building on his position after the first debate.

Whilst the Government may have favoured local authorities in the midlands and north at the expense of those in the south, it is clear now that whoever wins the next General Election will have precious little room for manoeuvre - such is the state of public finances.
