On a 34.43% turnout the result in the Bury ward by-election was as follows:-

John Elliott (Conservative) 431 (69.29%)

David Hares (Liberal Democrat) 191 (30.71%)

There was 1 spoilt ballot paper

In May last year the result on 44.55% turnout had been Conservative 439 (55.29%), Independent 355 (44.71%).

Compared with last year there was a 37.71% swing from Independent to Liberal Democrat
