Conservative run West Sussex County Council has championed its stance on no mass burn incineration before 2015 and saying "No" to London waste being sent to landfill in the county.

But the County has in place contractural arrangements to send 50,000 tonnes of waste a year between 2010 and 2015 to an energy from waste incinerator and 25,000 tonnes a year to landfill outside the county.

Because of the County's lack of long term planning for alternatives to landfill, from next year Council tax payers will have to find an extra £2m for increased landfill taxes.
