St. Richard's Hospital

Advances in medical science and technology will mean changes in service provision but any changes must be driven by the long term clinical needs of patients not short term financial considerations, say Chichester Liberal Democrats.

The threat to full A&E services at St. Richard's puts at risk other services - not just A&E. The "emerging scenario" outlined by the Chief Executive of the West Sussex Primary Care Trust is no full trauma A&E in West Sussex, just one district general hospital and one obstetrics department.

The gap between the government's boasts on the NHS and local reality grows daily.

The recent re-organisation of the NHS governing bodies - a regional health authority and a county wide primary care trust is not helping the situation at all.

Public consultation on the future of health services in West Sussex will not start until May - nearly later than the government promised
